Misanthropy - Abhorrent Abomination (Review)

I am a simple man - I see Slam, I click it! Amidst all the heavy releases of January, Slam boys from Pennsylvania Abhorrent Abomination drops their first EP "Misanthropy". Also when the release is from Slam Worldwide themselves, you know it's gonna hit hard!

Album intro "Decay" is filled with down-tempoed slow-sludgy-slam riffs, with start-stop progression and no such song structure. Put some insane low guttural vocals and pig squeals on top of it to make it extra catchy. "Disgust" is disgustingly brutal with its vocals, as if summoned from the lowest pits of hell. The riffs are fast paced and drums blasting like machine guns throughout. "Extinction" with its nasty guttural decimation makes me leave Earth and go destroy Mars! A bit of melodious solo halfway changes my mind though…...The only takeaway from "xMUTILATIONx '' are the insane pinch harmonics, with some memorable riffs here and there. The high screams sound a bit in the style of Dickie Allen. "Abhorrence", along with its slam riffs adds some tappy-tappy-weedly-weedly to it. This track is nothing but a cesspool of breakdown, happening again and again.

Firstly, this record is not going to appeal to everyone as slam is not everyone's cup of tea. "Misanthropy" showcases extreme vocal supremacy. From extreme high screams to low gutturals, pig squeals, this record has everything. The riffs and the instrumentals in total are nothing as such special and unique. The production is clean and the sound matches what modern slam tries to be these days. In total, "Misanthropy" can be termed as a bit generic with extra toppings of vocals!
