Moon Crawler - Archon Corrupt (Review)

I haven’t touched any slam after the release of Abhorrent Abomination and Acranius. With many releases on the radar, it's time to give a shot to some new slam releases of this week. The newly formed two-man project Archon Corrupt aims to create some intense dark slam and deathcore through their music. The band just dropped their newest debut EP “Moon Crawler”, and without any further ado, let’s jump into discussing it.

“Luminous anomalies” starts off by using horror soundscape, which directly bleeds into “The abhorred” - sludgy slam riffs with Gojira pick-scrapes, the song already showcases a lethal mix of deathcore with modern slam. With catchy riffs and several tempo drops throughout, this one is a banger! “Bestowed keepers” follows with the momentum of the previous track, adding more blast beats and double bass beneath it. The insane bass drops aiding the song, hits smashingly right in the face. The outro features some clean guitar parts, giving it an epic climactic ending.

“Existence calamity” yet showcases blasting drums throughout with chromatic leads and dissonance based riffs. With random start-stop moments, the song structure rebuilds its momentum with slower tempo and chuggy riffs. “Frequencies from the void” features some classic chunky slam riffs, performed with much fashion. Throw in some deathcore-ish breakdown to add spiciness too!

The production of the EP is polished, and heavier like legends of this genre like Vulvodynia, Acrania and Abominable Putridity. I really love the drum sound, especially the snare even though it's programmed. The guitar does much of the slamming work with its technical riffs, chugs and breakdowns. The only issue I can say is the lo-fi guitar tone in “The abhorred”, which comes as a bit unpleasant to my ears. There’s not much to say about the vocal demonstration on the record - the lows and gutturals do the perfect job as needed. In short, Archon Corrupt showcases the perfect brutality through “Moon Crawler”.
