Ave Destruction - Observants (Review)

After the release of their 2019 EP “Supreme Being”, the Observants are back with their debut album “Ave Destruction”. 2022 has already begun with some heavy-weight technical-deathcore albums already. Will these Canadian boys live upto the expectation, or will get lost in the saturated market of deathcore and death-metal?

The opening track of “Righteous Murders” already channels up the Deathcore-style riffages of Chelsea Grin, along with dissonant chords and high screeching Black Metal vocals of Vale of Pnath. Add some hardcore breakdown to it with blasting drums, and you got a perfect Blackened-Deathcore combo. How can you exclude the atmospheric synths and keyboard, included in songs “Unknown”. With Inferi style riffing and melodic sweeps, the song almost enters the realm of technical death-metal at few places. “Kleptocracy” seems rather a less-complex composition, but it has one of the best outros of the album, something that will resonate with deathcore fans. “Convictions” yet another Inferi-ish song, though a guitar solo is present through the midway of the song, which elevates the listening experience. “Lab Rats” and “Ave Destruction” have some of the most energetic riffs with fast blasting drums, again written in Tech-Death style with added breakdowns on top. The album finishes off with a climactic ending of choir vocals and synth in “Ave Destruction”.

Though the album might feel disjointed due to the placement of songs, it successfully manages to switch between the deathcore and tech-death realm, aided by the black metal-styled vocals, blasting drums and extra elements of synths and keyboards. Releasing the album in early 2022 gives the Observants an upper hand, since 2021 saw some of the biggest releases in Technical Deathcore/Death-Metal. Though this record might be lost among the huge releases, the album will stay for a longer time with the fans!
