My Shattered Spirit and Broken Will - Unveil the Omen (Review)

While taking inspirations and mixing genres might be an old concept now, only few bands manage to survive the test of time to stand out as unique with their sound among thousand other mediocre bands of the same genre. Unveil the Omen tries a nice and unique blend of sound on their newest EP "My Shattered Spirit and Broken Will" and we are here to discuss it.

The opening track "Upon a Final Blessing" begins with some absolutely bone-crushing riffs and drum blasts. With added noise and distortion to the guitar tone and being chaotic in its soundscape, this weird blend stays throughout the album, and works pretty well. With all the mayhem existing, the vocals lie in the forefront. "I-ill" begins with a fancy melodic intro with drums blasting on top of it. The track showcases some wickedly catchy tunes. Midway through the song features open-chug based riffs in the style of Groove metal. The biggest takeaway though are the Hardcore style pre-breakdown vocals line present at the end. "Leech" showcases the musical combination of Lamb of God riffs in style of blackened death or if Abysmal Dawn made their mix chaotic and dirty. With technical riffs and black metal style guitar phrasings, halfway through the song features guitar chords in the flair of Alternative Metal/Metalcore. "Inure" carries on the same vibe as the previous track, with just more dissonance added to it. The song effectively flows between the grooviness of death metal and metalcore domain. "Kreacher" is rather a mid-paced song, painting a grim and melancholy soundscape, aiding the orchestration which is present throughout the song and ends it in a dramatic fashion.

"My Shattered Spirit and Broken Will" features a black-metal-ish flavour to its guitar tone, which acts uniquely to the genre they play. The drums provides the necessary tightness and heaviness to the overall album. The vocals are loud with phrasing in the style of LoG. In general, this is not a unique sound to metal you hear on a daily basis, but still bangs hard and does its job of being a good record.
